The Invincible Peelout

March 9th, 2007

GameFAQs can be good for certain things as you may be aware. They have codes, FAQs, and release info for the games we play (though it's said that a fair deal of it is wrong). The message boards are GREAT...that is, IF you go to the right ones. Certain boards aren't worth the time. GameFAQs is a site that has a heavy influence with Yin and Yang. There is good and there is bad. Lots of people give it a bad rap, but think of it as a giant melting pot of people and beliefs, just like America. We have all sorts of people, and not everyone gets along. Some choose to be troublemakers, and others uphold the "law". GameFAQs is no different. GameFAQs doesn't like to have too much fun though, and that's my major concern. Learning and talking about games should be fun right? After all, any relevant talk of videogames should be cool.

To make a long story short, GameFAQs doesn't talk about all relevant things, because they deemed this next thing I'm going to tell you irrelevant. Some may know of it, but most do not. To your right, is an image of a well known hero, Sonic the Hedgehog. The game is Sonic Chaos, released in the U.S. in 1993 for the Sega Game Gear. If you noticed, the image to the right has a small sparkle next to Sonic. That's actually part of his invincibility aura, but it rotates so fast, I could only image capture a piece of it. Yep, Sonic is invincible in the shot, yet what's so special about it? Sonic is in the middle of a "Peel-Out" technique. Yes indeed...the useless Sonic Peel-Out...not as fast as the Spin Dash and it leaves him vulnerable to attacks. However, if you charge the Peel-Out for thirty seconds in game time, Sonic will become invincible for a brief moment. Why did Sega do that? God only knows. Do you need it? Not at all. Is it good to know? Absolutely. While GameFAQs is a cool place, to me, it's like leaving out a piece of gaming history to have something like the aforementioned ignored. Just like the Sega Neptune... it's a prototype and the average individual can't use it, but we still want to know about it right? I mean, what's the point in talking about it if it has no real practical use? Just like the good ol' useless Peel-Out technique. If you didn't know, now you know. In the meanwhile, I'll be begging Paperboy for some more good news.

Delicious Noodles. Got a problem with that?

March 5th, 2007

What is that kid doing over there? Slurping up some Ramen Noodles folks, and it looks rather enjoyable. Why is this person enjoying him/herself? Because slurping, when done correctly, can be a life altering experience. Some people say slurping is bad for you, but I for one beg to differ. Slurping can be enjoyed on many different levels, some more profound than others. In a recent Vtd study, it was discovered that slurping helps digest food, helps drown out annoying noises with some of your own, makes hard candy like lollipops last much longer than those who chew them, helps with teething, and much, much more. If there are so many "benefits" to slurping, why do people condemn it as such a negative thing?

Is it because many cultures consider it "rude" to slurp out in public? Why should slurping be limited to only being a private affair? While some slurping is only appropriate in the privacy of ones home, the MAJORITY of slurping activities arise for a number of reasons. Whether it's because some things may be irresistible to ones taste buds, it may be a force of habit, you have nothing else better to do, etc., there should be no reason one can't slurp, especially in the U.S.A, where things like "Freedom of Speech and Expression" exist. While some laws and practices are made to protect us, don't you think the world is a little "too anal" about everything? In the year 2088, fun may cease to exist.

This brings me to preferences...what people prefer...and what people like and dislike. The nature of human beings is to negatively lash out at things that perplex us or things we don't understand. Something that is deemed obscene in one place may not be obscene in another place. One thing that may seem trivial to me may not be trivial to you. In fact, there is a possibility that you may take great pride in "said" thing. Take it from me people, this article isn't so much about slurping as it is playing it cool. Relax peeps. Until next we meet, don't miss out Paperboy's next exciting newspaper!

One Funny Item from My College Capstone Project

March 4th, 2007

Boy oh boy...I remember my college courses like they were only yesterday...well, that's probably because I've only been gone for a few months. Thinking back, I remembered a little piece of my project that I did that just made me think about the Burger King games. You know...the ones for Xbox and Xbox 360? If you don't know, they were Sneak King, Pocketbike Racer, and Big Bumpin'. If you thought the idea of a game made after "The King" and the infectiously popular phrases like "Have it your way" was weird, check out the image to your right. No, it's not the next Gears Of War, and no, it's not a REAL game, but it is the very essence of what I was working on in my college class. It was a project where we combined various aspects of multimedia to show prospective employers "that we didn't just sit there and warm the seats all year". Can you imagine putting your final grade in the hands of something like THIS? This determined whether or not I'd get my Associates Degree.

Actually, not just this, but the concept. I worked with a team of other talented programmers and multimedia students in order to make ads and commercials based on fantasy products. We were all very different in our ideals and approaches and since the class was silent, I blurted out random ideas. The one that stuck was "Bleach". Not just any Bleach, mind you. We had to make Bleach that would appeal to today's youth and actually get them "excited" about washing their own clothes. It sounded absurd on pen and paper, but the more I played with the idea, the better it got, and we decided to call it "Swick" (We had another name, "Soul Glo" that was pretty cool too). Our group had about four commercials, three ads, an online store, and "this" was one of the favorites amongst the items in the store. I photoshopped a pic of an Xbox 360 game (can you guess which one?), slapped our Logo on it, grabbed a cleaning lady and called it game of the year in 2006 even before it was released to "the public" (Noted by the RP rating)! Needless to say, it became a hit due to observers from other classes. Anyway, I thought I'd share that with you today. Until next time, I'll be checking the headlines and seeing what other news Paperboy has in store...
